About this build

Every ball of this snowman is built a different way. He shares a 16 x 16 snowy plate with a frosted pine tree, a wooden sled and a small lantern.

There are 116 parts over 13 steps, and a good share of them are small white plates. Plan on 45–60 minutes. The middle section is the slow part.

The bottom ball, in step 3, is quick: two large 6 x 6 round bricks stacked on each other. The middle ball, in steps 4 to 7, is built layer by layer from 1 x 5, 1 x 3 and 1 x 1 white plates. Each layer turns 90 degrees from the one below, a simple bonding trick that locks loose plates into one solid block. A black round plate set into the front of each layer pair becomes a coal button; steps 4, 5 and 6 add one each.

Step 7 adds stick arms of reddish-brown 1 x 3 plates. Step 8 lays a red 3 x 3 plate at the neck as a scarf, with a short red tail hanging down the front. The head, finished in step 9, is stacked from white 3 x 3 and 2 x 3 plates, with black 1 x 1 eyes and a single orange tooth plate for the carrot nose.

The hat is two steps: six black 1 x 5 plates for a wide brim, then a 3 x 3 plate and six 1 x 3 bricks for the tall crown.

The pine tree in step 12 alternates dark green and white inverted dishes, largest at the bottom, so every tier looks freshly snowed on.

For a variation, swap the red scarf and sled for blue plates.
