About this build

Red, white, red, white: six bands, each exactly three bricks tall, climb from the rocks to the gallery. Striping a lighthouse is a daytime aid, letting a tower be told apart from its neighbors along a coast, and here the stripes come almost for free. The whole shaft is a stack of 4 x 4 round bricks with a center pinhole, so every course self-centers on the one below and you only have to watch the color order.

The top is where the silhouette is made. In step 15 a black 6 x 6 round plate reaches one stud past the tower on every side, and four quarter-round fence pieces lock together on it into a full circle of railing. Above, four black 1 x 1 x 3 bricks act as mullions between clear window panes, two trans-yellow round bricks stand in for the light, and an inverted 4 x 4 dish makes the dark dome.

Down at sea level the build is broader and slower. Steps 2 to 6 heap dark gray bricks and 45-degree slopes into an islet, with double-convex slopes rounding the corners. The white keeper's cottage, red-roofed with a black ridge and a stubby chimney, sits on the low side of the rock beside a stone landing and a bollard.
