About this build

Forty-two transparent parts go into this greenhouse: twenty clear panels in the walls, six clear bricks in the two gable ends and sixteen clear slopes in the roof. Everything else is there to frame them, and that framing is what turns a pile of glass into a building you recognize. A glasshouse reads as one because the panes sit inside a light, painted grid, and the model copies that grid in white parts.

The grid goes up in layers. Four white 1 x 1 x 5 posts mark the corners in step 8, with the lower panels slotted between them and the dark-green four-pane door in the middle of the front wall. Thin white plates in step 9 run across the tops of those panels as a transom bar, and a second, shorter row of 1 x 2 x 2 panels stands on that bar in step 10. The white eave beams in step 11 close the box.

The roof follows the same idea. Each course of the pitched roof has two clear 2 x 4 slopes in the middle and a white 2 x 1 slope at each end, so the gable edges are trimmed in white all the way up to a white ridge. Underneath it all, a single course of dark-red bricks gives the base its brickwork color against the green lawn.

Do the inside first, as the steps do. Benches, the tiered stand and every pot go in during steps 4 to 7, while you can still reach them; once the panels are up you will be working through glass.

Allow roughly 45-60 minutes for 198 parts across 16 steps. The greenhouse is 10 x 8 studs on a 16 x 16 garden base.
